FIELD SAFETY OPERATIONS
GUIDELINES


LEGAL REQUIREMENTS

1. All fliers using this facility will abide by the Chatfield State Park Rules and Regulations and the Field Safety Operations Guidelines of the Jefco Aeromod’lers Club #176

2. Alcoholic beverages are prohibited on the flight line side of the spectator fence

3. Only authorized frequencies may be used

4. There shall be no model engines run BEFORE 7:00 A.M.

5. Any model flown at this site should not exceed the current posted sound level

FIELD SAFETY OPERATIONS RULES

1. Fliers are requested to have an AMA License and must fly according to the posted AMA Safety Code

2. RECKLESS OR UNSAFE FLYING WILL NOT BE TOLERATED. All fliers are required to operate their aircraft in a safe manner at all times.

3. DO NOT ORIENT YOUR AIRCRAFT IN SUSTAINED FLIGHT TOWARDS THE PITS AND/OR SPECTATOR AREAS

4. No person shall position theirself on or near the flying field in a manner that would be obstructive or hazardous to theirselves or others flying

5. ONLY ONE RUNWAY WILL BE ACTIVE AT ANY TIME

6. INEXPERIENCED FLIERS MUST BE SUPERVISED by someone able to maintain complete control of the aircraft at all times

7. Each transmitter must be equipped with the accepted frequency identification

8. NO TRANSMITTER SHALL BE TURNED ON UNTIL THE PILOT’S FREQUENCY PIN HAS BEEN ATTACHED TO THE APPROPRIATE FREQUENCY POST

9. All fliers will pit according to frequency and all transmitters will remain in the transmitter impound while the frequency is in use by others.

10. THERE WILL BE NO HIGH-SPEED ENGINE RUNNING IN THE PIT AREA

11. All aircraft will be flown so as to conform to authorized flight areas as posted

12. When on the taxiway, the pilot must be in position to retain physical control of the aircraft at all times

13. All take-offs, landings and hand launches will be in the direction of the established traffic pattern using the active runway

14. All persons will stand in the designated pilot standing areas, nearest the approach end of the active runway, except during take- off and landing operations

15. Landing aircraft have runway priority, except for dead-stick or emergency landings. All other pilots, with flights in progress or preparing to take-off, must be notified of either of the above

16. SAILPLANE HI-STARTS ARE NOT AUTHORIZED FOR USE

17. High-speed low passes over the runway are prohibited

18. WHEN HELICOPTERS ARE FLYING, ALL FIXED-WING PILOTS ARE TO AVOID FLYING INTO THE HELICOPTER FLYING AREA

19. You must have in your possession a current turbine certificate if you operate a turbine powered aircraft at Chatfield State Park

20. The NORTH/SOUTH RUNWAY is the PRIMARY RUNWAY for fixed wing airplanes. If winds are over 5 mph AND greater than 45 to the runway, the East/West runway may be used.

21. When using the AIRSPACE TO THE WEST OF THE RUNWAYS, pilots MUST TURN their AIRPLANES BACK TO THE EAST AT OR BEFORE THE DESIGNATED MARKERS.

HELICOPTER RULES

1. The authorized helicopter flying areas will be the far end of the inactive runway A. When the west end of the east/west runway is used, helicopters must not be flown east of the furthest west taxiway, nor south of the east/west taxiway B. When the south end of the north /south runway is used, helicopters must not be flown north of the east/west runway, nor west of the north/south runway

2. AIR-TAXIING OF HELICOPTERS IS NOT ALLOWED; THEY MUST BE CARRIED TO DESIGNATED FLYING AREA

JET TURBINE RULES

1. Concrete pads north of pit area will be used to maintain the required 25 foot “start area spacing”.

2. All AMA Safety Regulations For Model Aircraft Gas Turbines (effective 3/9/99) must be followed in order to operate Turbine Powered Model Aircraft at this flying field.

3. AN AMA CERTIFICATE FOR THE TURBINE YOU ARE FLYING MUST BE IN YOUR POSSESSION WHEN FLYING AT FIELD

RUNWAY USE

1. The NORTH/SOUTH RUNWAY is the PRIMARY RUNWAY for fixed wing airplanes. If winds are over 5 mph AND greater than 45 to the runway, the East/West runway may be used.

2. When using the AIRSPACE TO THE WEST OF THE RUNWAYS, pilots MUST TURN their AIRPLANES BACK TO THE EAST AT OR BEFORE THE DESIGNATED MARKERS.

1. All fliers are obligated to keep the field and adjoining area clear of litter

2. AIRCRAFT USING A GASOLINE/OIL MIXTURE SHALL NOT BE FUELED ON ANY ASPHALT SURFACE

3. No aircraft engine shall be operated in a manner that will allow propwash to be directed towards another aircraft, equipment, another person or the transmitter impounds

SAFETY IS THE NUMBER ONE PRIORITY
